The
screen shots below show the performance of an Aardvark Direct Pro Q10
installed on a PC with Gigabyte 8IHXP motherboard, 512mb PC1066 RDRAM,
and P4 2.26b CPU. Notice the poor RAM bandwidth benchmark, as well as
the poor PCI bus efficiency. Other symptoms include %100 CPU utilization
upon boot which causes the OS to freeze for several seconds. Another issue
worth noting, independent of motherboard/chipset compatibility, is that
Aardvark's control panel application utility can opened/closed only 33
times consecutively before it disables the service, requiring a reboot,
or restarting the service from the Windows XP services manager snap-in.
Now if that was the extent of the problems with this sound card, I wouldn't
be too concerned, however the real problem:> is the random, frequent
service dropouts, again requiring the service to be restarted. You can
download and run this file if you're experiencing
the problem to restart the Aardvark service without rebooting, or navigating
to the Services snap-in. I have found that the Q10
performs similarly on many newer motherboards. click on thumbnail for expanded view |
